The police on Wednesday, March 4th, in Los Angeles, detained one of the drivers that hit and killed a woman. Gerardo Garciavara, 35, was arrested and booked on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The accident Garciavara is being held for occurred on Monday, March 2nd. The police received a call about a hit-and-run accident on Tampa Avenue and Hart Street at about 6:40 p.m., with the caller saying that two drivers hit a woman, and one of them fled the scene.
Eyewitnesses told the police that a 2006 silver Honda Accord, driven by Garciavara, was traveling north on Tampa Avenue at Hart Street when it struck the unnamed pedestrian who was crossing the west side of the street.
The woman was crossing at a point with a “Don’t walk” sign. Moments after Garciavara hit the woman, a dark-colored Sedan heading north ran over the pedestrian lying on the roadway.
The Honda driver stayed at the scene to talk with officers while the unidentified driver of the Sedan fled the scene. A test carried out on Garciavara showed that his BAC at the time he hit the deceased was above the legal limit of .08 percent, hence his arrest.
The Los Angeles Police Department is heading the investigation into the accident. They are searching for the second driver and have offered $50 000 as a reward for helpful information that would help them make an arrest.
Garciavara is in police study, and at the time of this report, there’s no record of a bail bond or when he will get arraigned.
