Dump Truck Hits and Kills Clayton Skateboarder, Eric Pederson, on Glendora Mountain Road

In a tragic Glendora accident, Eric Pederson, a 20-year-old skateboarder from Clayton, was killed Friday morning, March 20, 2015, when he was run over by a dump truck on Glendora Mountain Road.

Pederson’s horrific, fatal encounter with the dump truck occurred near East Fork Road, when Pederson, who was skateboarding with friends down the curvy mountain road, accidentally ran into the dump truck, was trapped, and was pulled under the dump truck’s wheels. Pederson’s friends watched, powerless to stop the terrible chain of events, in the crash with the dump truck that caused Pederson’s death.

A KNOCK AT THE DOOR

Eric Pederson was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision with the commercial truck. He was not immediately identified, pending opportunity to notify his family of the accidental death. That horrible news has since been delivered to a grieving family, and Pederson was identified publicly by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office on Saturday.

A SHOCKING LOSS OF LIFE

Few accidental deaths are more tragic than the loss of a young person in the prime of life. Survivors search for answers. How could such a thing happen?

In addition to the overwhelming grief a family experiences after a loved one dies in an accident, survivors suffer in other ways, as well. Financial difficulties arise almost immediately, with the high cost of funeral bills and other expenses. The family loses the financial support of the person who was killed, and the future support and companionship that he would have provided as he grew older.

GETTING HELP IN THE AFTERMATH OF ACCIDENTAL DEATH

Because a motor vehicle caused the death, Pederson’s family might have the right to look to motor vehicle insurance for monetary compensation. Coverage limits may even be higher than those carried on passenger vehicles, because a commercial truck was involved in the accident.

Insurance companies are likely to deny claims or push lowball settlements, and even filing the claims may be difficult at such an emotional time. Families who have lost a loved one in an accident need experienced legal help navigating these problems, so that they can spend their time and energy on healing from such a tragedy.
