Patrick Grady Arrested Following a High-Speed Chase Crash in Grass Valley

A press release by the Grass Valley Police Department, California, disclosed that on Thursday, October 8th, a patrol vehicle collided head-on with a stolen pickup during a high-speed chase in the city. They identified the driver of the stolen automobile as 37-year-old Patrick Grady.

The police said that the crash happened on Highway 49. Facts from the accident report showed that the collision events began with the California Highway Patrol pursuing the suspect in a vehicle that he abandoned.

The first chase reportedly lasted for about four hours, beginning from 12:15 p.m. after a failed traffic stop at a gas station along McKnight Way. Grady was driving a Ford pickup, which was reported stolen.

After ditching the Ford, the suspect stole the second pickup and kept on driving until the collision. The Grass Valley PD said that the officer involved received treatment in a hospital for injuries that are not severe.

The police and the CHP took Grady into custody but have not released the charges against him at this time. There is no additional information.

High speed chases often end in dangerous situations like a car crash and is best avoidable by complying with law enforcement agencies directives. Thus, drivers should reduce speed when officers attempt a traffic stop, pull over, and cooperate with the investigation.

On their part, law enforcement agencies should consider the speed of the driver before starting a chase. Additionally, public safety and the number of vehicles on the roadway should also be considered.
