Ivania Torres, 50, from South San Francisco, died in a pedestrian accident in San Mateo on January 19, 2020.
Torres was a passenger in a white Toyota Yaris that was traveling on Highway 101. A Dodge Charger struck that vehicle from behind. Both vehicles pulled over just south of Third Avenue sometime between 1:45 and 1:50 a.m. There were no injuries in that incident.
Then, Torres exited the Yaris to talk to the other driver. There are reports that the other driver was arguing with the woman.
That’s when Ramon Hernandez, 32, of Redwood City, struck both Torres and the Charger with his black Toyota Camry.
Ivania Torres died at the scene.
When police tested Hernandez blood-alcohol content, it was 0.16 percent, or twice the legal limit. Police placed him under arrest. He has since been charged with been charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence .
Hernandez’ girlfriend went to Stanford Hospital due to injuries from the crash. Another individual that had been in the Yaris also went to the hospital.
Police also arrested the driver of the Charger on suspicion of DUI, but police have not yet filed charges. That case is under review.
Hernandez is in custody. His bail is set at $300,000.
