Jason Carbonell Dies on Dana Point Car Crash; Mayly Willey and Brian Carbonell Injured


A police chase in Dana Point, California led to a traffic collision which left one dead and two seriously injured. On Sunday, August 23rd, relatives of two of the victims shared new details about the accident, revealing the state of one of the survivors.

The accident on Wednesday, August 19th, involved Brian Carbonell, his twin brother, Jason Carbonell, and a female companion, Mayly Willey. Preliminary accident reports confirmed that Jason, who was driving the vehicle, died in the crash, while the other two survived.

The crash began when Dana Point officers engaged a woman in a car chase over undisclosed reasons. While fleeing officers, the suspect drove his Toyota Corolla into Pacific Coast Highway, where he crashed into a Subaru Outback conveying the three victims. Jason and Brian Carbonell sustained critical injuries from the impact, and medical teams transported them to a hospital. Hours later, Jason passed away from his wounds. The third occupant, Willey, received treatment for minor injuries.

Brian Carbonell suffered life-threatening trauma in the accident and remains at the intensive care unit of Mission Hospital. His family, on Sunday, released updates on his condition. They revealed that the 23-year old already regained consciousness, but was still on a ventilator. He suffered a punctured lung, and five rib fractures in the accident and was in a lot of pain, Brian’s mom added.

Meanwhile, the unidentified woman fleeing police also suffered injuries leading to her hospitalization. Once discharged, Orange County deputies will book her into jail in connection with the fatal crash.
