Jeffrey McChesney Arrested by the San Francisco Police for Elder Abuse

On Friday, July 3rd, the San Francisco Police Department revealed that they arrested a resident of San Francisco, California, for elder abuse. The police took Jeffrey McChesney, 54, into custody on Wednesday, July 1st.

The investigators said in a press briefing that the event that led to the man’s arrest began with a missing 4-½-year-old German Shepherd-Labrador mix named Koa. The dog belonged to an 82-year-old man who filed a report last Thursday, June 25th, at the SFPD District Station around 1 p.m.

The report read that McChesney, the older man’s roommate, took the dog out for a walk and returned home without it. Investigators with the police’s Richmond Station believe that the suspect gave Koa to a third party in Stow Lake or 19th Avenue. The man, in addition to the elder abuse charge, is facing theft and embezzlement charges.

There is no information on McChesney’s bail or when he would appear in court. The SFPD is still looking for the dog, and they have asked the public’s help in finding him. According to the department, Koa weighs about 100 pounds, and it has extra toes on his back paw. Residents should call the tip line, and they can remain anonymous if they choose to.

The World Health Organization defines elder abuse as a single or repeated act or lack of appropriate action occurring within a relationship where there is an expectation of trust, which causes harm or distress to another person.
