A two-vehicle collision which occurred early on Thursday, April 9, left one man injured, and the other suffering from severe pain in San Luis Obispo, California. Accident reports provided by the authorities confirmed that the crash was first reported at about 7:35 am on the said date.
Officers responded to Shandon Rest Area shortly after the traffic incident was called in, and discovered two dented vehicles with major front-end damages.
Preliminary investigations determined that one of the involved motorists, identified as Joe Padilla, a 54-year-old man from Bakersfield, was travelling through the east lanes on Highway 46.
Padilla’s 2013 Dodge Ram 3500 flatbed truck suddenly crossed the dividing lines into the west travel lanes on Cholame Creek bridge, near Lucy Brown Road.
Almost immediately, the wrong-lane vehicle crashed head-on into an oncoming 2018 Freightliner tractor operated by Jose Casas, 47, of Indiana, causing the tractor to lose its rear axle.
Due to the impact, the Dodge Ram skidded roughly through the westbound lanes for miles, until it came to rest on the north shoulder of the roadway.
The operator of the flatbed truck suffered minor injuries in the wreck and was treated on the scene by paramedics, while Casas complained of serious pains, with no physical wounds.
The California Highway Patrol shut down parts of Highway 46 for several hours after the crash until they were reopened at about 4:20 pm.
No further information regarding the collision was given in the accident reports.
