John Espinosa Fatally Injured in Vacaville Two-Vehicle Crash

On Saturday, June 13th, the Solano County Coroner identified the teenager who died in a two-vehicle collision in Vacaville, California. The coroner named John Espinosa, 18, as the victim.

The accident report disclosed that the teenage driver passed away on Thursday, June 11th, after the car he was driving collided with another vehicle. Sgt. Dave Kellis with the Vacaville Police said they dispatched patrol officers to the scene just before 8 p.m. after receiving a call about a major collision at the intersection of Browns Valley Road Tipperary Drive.

Espinosa was driving a Chevrolet El Camino heading north on Browns when he broadsided a Toyota SUV traveling west on Tipperary. Kellis said that first responders had to extricate the victim from his vehicle, and despite the effort of Vacaville firefighters and medics to save his life, he died from his wounds.

The driver of the other vehicle identified as a 40-year-old woman from Vacaville received treatment for minor injuries at an undisclosed local hospital. The sergeant said drugs or alcohol did not play a role in the accident, which remains under investigation.

According to the Center for Disease Control, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among US teens. Male teenagers between the ages of 16 and 19 are more at risk of a collision than female teens, and the contributing factors range from inexperience to speeding. Others are drugs and alcohol impairment, lack of seat belt use, and distracted driving.
