The San Diego Police Department said in a press release on Friday, October 9th, that they arrested a 28-year-old man for a DUI accident in the Stockton neighborhood of San Diego, California. The suspect, John Sanders, would need a drunk driving attorney’s service.

The police said that he crashed his vehicle at an intersection on Thursday, October 8th, shortly before 9:15 p.m. The collision happened at 32nd Street and Imperial Avenue, just west of Interstate 15.

SDPD Officer Robert Heims said Sanders drove a 2007 Toyota Corolla westbound on Imperial. He collided with the side of a southbound 2018 Honda Civic driven by a 19-year-old man from Heims.

The officer said one of the cars ran a red light at an intersection, but they have not established which car. The crash impact injured a 55-year-old female passenger in the Honda’s rear seat, and medics took her to the hospital for treatment.

There is no update on the victim’s condition at the time of this report. The police took Sanders into custody on suspicion of DUI.

Under the California Vehicle Code, a person drives under the influence if they operate a vehicle while intoxicated by either drugs or alcohol. For the latter, the legal limit for blood alcohol concentration is .08%, and commercial drivers must have less than .04%.

Young people below 21 years must have less than .01%. Offenders who are convicted are liable to spend time in jail, pay a fine, have their driving privileges revoked, and attend an alcohol education program.
