On Thursday, February 20th, the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office identified the person who died in the vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash at Littlerock. He is 59-year-old, Johnnie Boone of Palmdale, California.
Boone died from the injuries sustained from the crash, and the cause of death got listed as an accident. The deceased got knocked down last Thursday, February 13th, while taking a walk in Littlerock.
A report by the California Highway Patrol showed that the deceased was walking on Avenue T near 94th Street East when a car driven by Shilo Schoop hit him. The driver came down to help Boone and stayed with him until the first responders arrived.
An American Medical Response personnel tried to resuscitate Boone, but he had already succumbed to his injuries. Schoop, on the other hand, sustained minor injuries and got taken to the Palmdale Regional Medical Center.
He is cooperating with the authorities as they try to piece together what happened. The police had ruled out driver’s impairment and negligence as a possible cause of the accident.
However, Boone’s family or representatives of his estate can bring a personal injury suit or a wrongful death claim, or both, against Schoop under California law. When that happens, the court will look at the duty of care owed to the deceased.
California law provides that those involved in an accident should not flee, but report it to the authorities, and help out if there’s an injury. Thus, the court will consider the driver’s conduct after the accident in awarding compensation to the deceased’s family.
