Motor vehicle accidents exist for several reasons that are human-made or external, and one of them is drivers’ disregard for traffic rules and regulations. Disobeying traffic lights and stop signs is one of the ways drivers flaunt rules made for their safety and that of those around them.
The California Vehicle Code 22450 VC provides that a driver of a vehicle approaching a stop sign at the entrance to, or within an intersection should stop at the limit line, if marked, otherwise before entering the crosswalk or near the side of the intersection. If there is no crosswalk line or limit line, the driver must stop before the intersecting roadway.
Failure to do the above is a traffic offense, and offenders are liable to pay a fine of $150. Anyone who feels he or she did not run a stop sign can contest the ticket in a court of law.
