Jose Ruiz Arrested Following Police Pursuit that Ended in a Car Crash

Jose Ruiz

Authorities have taken a 28-year-old man in custody after leading sheriff’s deputies in a five-minute chase before crashing an allegedly stolen car into a patrol cruiser. The accident reports confirmed the suspect, Jose Ruiz, was arrested on Monday, April 6, in Bakersfield, California.

The incident began at about 2:40 pm when officers responded to a call about a missing car that was tracked to 6100 block of Niles Street. Officers dispatched to the said location found the vehicle as described, with three occupants on board.

The two passengers alighted the car and fled on foot when seeing the police. While a male passenger was intercepted as he escaped, the only female among them has not been found.

Meanwhile, the driver of the stolen car sped away, with the police on his trail.  The fleeing driver collided with two police vehicles in his flight before drastically crashing into a third, parked on the 2600 block of Mcnutt Street.

Immediately, he abandoned the wrecked car and took to his heels, running through resident houses and jumping backyard fences until deputies apprehended him. The Kern County Sheriff’s Office identified the driver as 28-year-old Jose Ruiz.

Ruiz now faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, vehicle theft, evading arrest, and resisting arrest, as stated in the accident reports. No one was hurt during the stolen car recovery mission that led to three separate traffic collisions.
