A man faulted in a suspected DUI crash in Pala Mesa, California, which left one person dead, would require a drunk driving attorney. Police arrested the suspect on Saturday, May 30, right after the fatal incident.
The California Highway Patrol deployed officers to a location on State Route 76, on reports of a serious injury solo vehicle crash. A male passenger in the vehicle at the time lost his life in the accident, which happened at about 11 p.m.
Investigations conducted at the scene of the collision showed the crash involved a 2006 Infiniti G35, driven by 53-year-old Juan Hart of Garden Grove. The Infiniti was reportedly traveling through the westbound lanes of State Route 76.
Officials said the westbound vehicle crossed the double yellow lines into eastbound traffic to bypass another vehicle near Pala Del Norte. Suddenly, Hart lost control of his car and drove off the road into an embankment bordering the north shoulder of the state route. The vehicle then overturned, ejecting its sole passenger in the process.
The emergency response team showed up at the scene shortly after and transported Hart and his passenger to Palomar Medical Center with major injuries. The passenger, described only as a 23-year-old Wildomar man, succumbed to his wounds while receiving treatment at the hospital. Hart remains hospitalized with serious injuries believed to be potentially non-life-threatening.
Officers determined that Hart was driving while intoxicated. He now faces DUI charges and would be booked upon his discharge from the health facility.
Motorists facing DUI charges can contact a drunk driving attorney for representation.
