Kathleen DeJesus Cracks her Head in TikTok Challenge Accident

The city of Lawrence, Massachusetts, is the latest place to record an injury from the TikTok challenge. On Monday, February 24th, a teenager, Kathleen DeJesus, 13, found herself taking one when she got challenged while at the Lawrence Massachusetts Middle School.

The challenge involves two people convincing a third person to jump in the air. While the person is in the air, the other two kicks their feet from under, thereby causing the person to land head-first on the floor.

DeJesus, when she performed TikTok, hit her head hard on the floor. What followed as she later described it was feeling numb from the shoulders down, and being unable to move any part of her body.

The school authorities rushed her to the hospital, where doctors found that the teenager had a massive concussion. She stayed in the hospital under observation and got released when the doctors got satisfied that there was no severe head trauma.

DeJesus is one of many people, especially teenagers, who have gotten hurt from the challenge. Doctors and other medical professionals have seen a rise in injuries brought on by it.

They have started a campaign to make preteens and teens aware of the life-threatening and altering risks the challenge poses. The injuries can either be physical deficits or mental deficiencies.

Challenges like TikTok are called “Fads” and have been the rage over the years among teenagers. The TikTok got renamed after the skull breaker challenge.

Fads started with the ice-bucket challenge that involves the dumping of a bucket of ice water on a person’s head. The tasks are captured on video and put on social media, where it goes viral.
