The two people killed in a plane crash in the Lassen County area of California have been identified as Kevin Fore, 45, of Redding, and Krista Holstrum, 35, of Grant Pass, Oregon. The Lassen County Sheriff’s Office made the identification public on Monday, August 17th.
The accident report placed the plane crash at about 12:55 p.m. on Saturday, August 15th. Fore and Holstrum were the pilots of the aircraft, and the sheriff’s office said that they were on a day trip from Redding Airport to Susanville Airport to have lunch with family members in the area.
The victims operated a single-engine PA 14 airplane, and they were flying back to Redding when they crashed near Eagle Lake. The report disclosed that Fore and Holstrum were 600 feet in the air when the aircraft’s engine stalled, and the left-wing dipped towards the ground.
When county emergency responders arrived at the scene, they found the plane severely damaged in a dirt patch between two paved runways. Fore and Holstrum were unresponsive, and the medics pronounced them dead at the scene.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) also responded at the crash site and took over the investigation. The latter is ongoing, and there’s no additional information at this time.
Plane crashes are not frequent, but when they occur, they mostly end in the death of its occupants. Common causes of this type of accident are the pilot’s error, mechanical problems, and adverse weather conditions.
