The California Highway Patrol on Sunday, August 2nd, revealed the name of the man killed in a traffic collision in Lancaster, California. Steve H. Gonzalez, 25, a city resident, was driving the wrong way when he crashed his vehicle.
The CHP stated in the car accident report that the occurrence happened on Saturday afternoon, August 1st. At about 3:20 pm., the victim drove east on West Avenue D’s westbound lanes in a 2017 Honda Civic. Towards 45th Street West, Gonzalez entered into the path of a 2009 International Pro Star driven by Victorville resident, Alson R. Hall, 68.
The investigators said that the second driver swerved to the right to avoid the man, but the front left of the Civic slammed into his trailer. The impact severely injured Gonzalez, and medics pronounced him dead at the scene. A passenger in the victim’s car, identified as Gabriella Itorvargas, 19, of Lancaster, sustained minor injuries and received treatment at Antelope Valley Hospital.
Officer B. Taggart of the CHP described the incident as a tragic loss of life, noting that it is the 24th fatality recorded this year. The Lancaster Police Department is investigating to see if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. They said the road was dry at the time, with clear visibility.
Anyone with relevant and helpful details about the crash should contact Taggart at the Antelope Valley CHP office or the LPD on the listed line. There is no additional information.
