The woman who died in a tragic accident in Oxnard, California, was identified by the authorities on Wednesday, March 11th. Laura Christian, 67, passed away after a DUI driver crashed into the car she was traveling in.
The accident occurred last Tuesday, March 3rd, at about 3:25 p.m. on North Rose Avenue near Central Avenue. A report by the California Highway Patrol showed that the deceased was driving a Lexus ES300 northbound on Rose Avenue.
Suddenly, for unknown reasons, a Ford Freestyle that was heading south crossed into the opposite lanes and collided head-on with the Lexus. The impact of the collision killed Christian, who was pronounced dead by the paramedics.
The woman’s passenger, an unidentified adult male, sustained severe injuries and was taken to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the Ford, identified as 21-year-old Zachary Archuletadiaz, also sustained critical wounds and was taken to the same hospital.
The police later arrested the young man on suspicion of DUI, and are holding him. The investigation into the accident is ongoing, and there is no additional information at the time of this report.
California Vehicle Code prohibits drivers from crossing from one lane to the other unless they are sure there is sufficient clearance to avoid a collision. When it comes to overtaking, motorists who are getting passed should yield the way, and those passing should do so at a safe distance.
Failure to obey the rules is a traffic offense that leads to a fined ticket. It becomes criminal when there’s an accident resulting in death or grievous bodily harm.
