On Tuesday, May 26th, a man and his canine friend lost their lives after a car involved in a high-speed chase with the police in Long Beach, California, struck them. According to the Long Beach Police Department, Jyvante West struck the deceased and his dog while fleeing from a burglary scene. The crash report showed that the suspect and four others at about 11 p.m. were breaking into business premises in the 2100-block of Gaylord Street.

When officers arrived at the scene, they detained three of the suspects and noticed West fleeing in a Mercedes. They lawmen gave chase, and the suspect, going at top speed, took them through the intersection of 6th Street and Magnolia Avenue.

The young man ran a red light at the intersection and struck Hernandez, who was crossing the roadway with his dog. The police said that the suspected burglar kept driving and crashed into a nearby fence with such force that residents said it sounded like two vehicles hitting each other.

The impact of the crash threw Hernandez and his dog about 100-feet from the accident scene, and the canine ended up under another car. The officers believe that West was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash and took him into custody.

They booked him on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated, and evading a police officer, hence auto accident attorneys. He is facing other charges, and his bail bond is $100 000. Six other apprehended burglary suspects from Northern California have their bond set at $10 000 each.
