Officer Anton Fischer, 33, of the Long Beach Police Department, California, died in a traffic collision in the city on Thursday, June 4th. The LBPD said in a press release that the man was off-duty and riding to work on his motorcycle when the accident occured in the afternoon.
The preliminary accident report showed that at about 2:25 p.m., Fischer was heading east on Ocean Boulevard. At the same time, the driver of a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee made a left turn from 7th Place to the westbound lane of Ocean. The police said that the officer could not stop in time and struck the side of the Jeep.
The LBPD Public Information Officer Arantxa Chavarria said Fischer suffered substantial injuries and passed away in a hospital. The driver of the Jeep remained at the scene and cooperated with the police’s investigation.
According to the Long Beach Police Officers Association, the victim joined the force in 2017 and worked in the East Division’s Directed Enforcement Team. The police department shared their condolences with the man’s family, and Mayor Robert Garcia asked the city residents to keep Fischer’s family and friends in their prayers.
Accident reports show that traffic collisions claim lives daily in California. In the case of an auto-motorcycle crash, the motorcyclist suffers fatal wounds due to the bike’s open design. To reduce the death rate, the Cal-DMV advise riders to always have on a US-DOT Compliant helmet, and protective apparels.
