On Monday, July 6th, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner identified the man who died in an accident on Highway 39 in Los Angeles County, California. The body of Abraham Tapia Jr., 26, of Azusa, was recovered from a submerged vehicle that plunged over the mountain road on Saturday, July 4th.
The accident report showed that the victim was in a vehicle that went off H-39, down the mountainside, and into the San Gabriel Dam on Thursday, July 2nd. The preliminary investigation uncovered that the Chevy Camaro Tapia was driving went through a chain-link fence and became submerged in water at about 10:20 p.m.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a passenger in the vehicle identified as Andres Peralta, 26, of Azusa, freed himself from it. Medics took the man to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, but Tapia was nowhere in sight.
Rescuers searched for the car and found it at about 4 a.m. on Friday, July 3rd. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau successfully lifted the destroyed vehicle on Saturday and afterward found the victim. The investigators have not uncovered what led to the accident, and the investigation is ongoing.
