The Los Angeles Police Department, Los Angeles, California, on Friday, March 13th, released the details of the man who died in a motorcycle accident. Steven Shields, 54, died after his motorcycle crashed against a vehicle.

The accident that ended the life of Shields occurred last Thursday, March 5th. The crash took place precisely at about 7 p.m. near the southbound 110 Freeway, north of 105 Freeway.

LAPD officials stated that Shields was ejected from the motorcycle he was driving when he collided with a vehicle. There is currently no information on the identity of the driver of the car or if he or she stopped after the accident.

Medics transported the motorcyclist to the hospital, where he died despite the best effort of the doctors. The LAPD is actively investigating the crash, and they have asked witnesses with helpful information to contact their office.

Accidents often start a chain of events that lead to the death of a person of life-altering injuries. Under California law, the circumstances of each case determines whether the authorities will bring a criminal charge or the victim a civil lawsuit against the person that caused the accident.

The criminal charges that arise from an accident are vehicular manslaughter, first and second-degree murder, a hit-and-run when a person flees and driving under the influence. The last two are charged as a misdemeanor or felony and carry a lesser sentence than the others.

The civil lawsuits that arise are personal injury or wrongful death, depending on whether the victim lives or dies. The victim gets compensated for the damage suffered, and the offender faces no prison time.
