In one day, two people in the SoCal area have become victims to train accidents involving MetroLink trains. Both victims of the train accidents, which took place on Wednesday June 23rd, were struck and killed.
The first train accident occured in Orange County, in the Oceanside region. At around 2:30 am, the conductor of a strain moving through Oceanside saw a man standing on the tracks, in the path of the train. Although the conductor applied his breaks, the train did not stop in time. The man was struck, and later determined dead. No passengers were injured, but the train was stopped and buses were provided to take them to other stations in the area. An investigation of this Oceanside train accident is ongoing.
The second train accident, occuring only hours later in the day, occured in Covina. A woman in her 30s or 40s was hit on the tracks at around 10:30 a.m. It is not known why the woman was on the tracks, or how she got there. An investigation of this Covina train accident has also started.
