A traffic collision in Los Angeles, California, on Tuesday night, March 10th, killed a young man riding on a motorcycle. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office identified him as 26-year-old Austin Daniel Vargas Rodes, of Northridge.
The collision happened in the area of Devonshire Street and Mason Avenue when Rodes, who was riding a motorcycle at the time, tried to make a turn on the lanes heading south on Mason Avenue, precisely in the Chatsworth area.
The California Highway Patrol report showed that at the same time, a white Mini Cooper was traveling east on Devonshire Street. For reasons the CHP hasn’t uncovered, Rodes and the driver of the Cooper collided at the intersection.
The impact of the collision ejected the deceased from his motorcycle, causing him to land hard on the floor. Rodes sustained severe injuries and was later pronounced dead by the medics at the scene.
The unnamed driver of the Cooper sustained minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment. The preliminary investigation noted that the road was wet at the time of the crash, and could be a contributing factor.
Drugs, alcohol, or a combination of both were ruled out as contributing elements. The accident is still under investigation, and those with helpful information have been asked to contact the authorities.
Adverse weather conditions and slippery roads are some of the standard causes of accidents. Drivers and motorcycle riders have been advised to carefully navigate roads in that state and do so within the legal speed limit.
