Authorities have released the identity of a transient who lost his life last week in a dual hit-and-run collision in South Los Angeles, California. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s office, in updated accident reports released on Saturday, May 16, named the fatal victim as Richard Hernandez, 67.

The tragic incident played out just before dawn on Wednesday, May 13. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, two vehicles struck Hernandez at about 4 a.m, on Main Street at 47th Place.

Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the vehicles was a white Honda Sedan with a model ranging from 2005-2010. The sedan was heading north on Main Street when it struck the victim. Detective Jose De Leon of LAPD Central Traffic Division said the pedestrian was at the time moving across the street in a marked crosswalk.

Police said after this initial collision, a second vehicle then hit Hernandez on the southbound lanes. Investigators are yet to obtain the model and description of the southbound vehicle. Both motorists fled the scene of the crash before law enforcement arrived.

Medics pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. No information about the two hit-and-run drivers is available at this time.

The police are still investigating the incident, and officers would communicate further findings in subsequent accident reports.

Authorities implored anyone with helpful information regarding the hit-and-run fatality to contact the Central Traffic division Watch commander. Informants can also get in touch with Detective De Leon on provided lines.
