The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office pronounced a man dead on Wednesday, June 18, after an SUV struck his scooter at an intersection. The incident, which requires the intervention of a top accident lawyer, played out in the Silver Lake area of Los Angeles, California.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, two other people suffered injuries and remain hospitalized in critical condition following the 10:35 a.m. crash. The accident involved an SUV, and a Vespa-style scooter, which collided at Effie Street and North Silver Lake Boulevard.
In a media release, the LAFD divulged that the fatal victim, 68-year-old Timothy Stirton, of Los Angeles, was riding a scooter on Effie Street. At the same time, an SUV was speeding in the area and failed to stop for the red light at the intersection. As a result, he broadsided the rider at the crossing, causing him fatal injuries.
The SUV continued forward after hitting Stirton, struck a tree located off the roadway and eventually crashed into the L&E Oyster Bar, in the 1600 block of North Silver Lake. The two occupants of the SUV, including a 72-year-old female motorist and her 52-year-old male passenger, suffered injuries in the accident.
First responders transported the car’s occupants to a hospital, where medical personnel listed them in critical condition. Stirton died at the scene.
Accounts obtained from a witness confirmed that the motorist had been driving erratically before the crash, in an attempt to bypass other motorists.
