Luis Salazar Dies in Worksite Accident at Foster Farms Turkey Plant in Turlock

Luis Salazar

In new accident reports obtained from the Stanislaus County authorities, the demise of a factory worker in a worksite accident was confirmed. The fatal occurrence took place on the evening of Monday, April 27, in the Turlock area of California.

Authorities ascertained that the fatality resulted from an occupational hazard in a turkey processing plant belonging to Foster Farms located on the 500 block of F Street.

Although the exact details of the accident were not disclosed to the public, the state’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health deduced that prior to the event, the man had reportedly fallen asleep on the production line before he was pulled onto a conveyor.

The Stanislaus County Coroner’s office identified the victim as Luis Salazar, a 30-year-old resident of Turlock. The vice president of the turkey processing line, Ira Bill, divulged that Salazar was an outside labor contractor, and not under the direct employment of Foster Farms.

Due to the worksite incident, Foster Farms shut down part of the turkey processing plant on Tuesday, April 28. The complex, which holds about 1300 workers, was slated to be reopened the next day.

Bill extended words of consolation to Luis Salazar’s family and friends via an email statement, on behalf of Foster Farms.

The Stanislaus County authorities, in conjunction with Cal/OSHA, are currently investigating the case, as stated in the accident reports.

Investigators would try to determine whether the accident resulted from an occupational hazard caused by the company’s inability to meet up to the approved worksite health and safety standards.
