A Madera, California man, was killed in a two-vehicle-versus-bicycle crash on the morning of Monday, March 16th. The man who has not been identified was killed when a car driven by Nicanor Carlos Gracia, 37, of Chowchilla, struck him while cycling.
The California Highway Police said in its report that at about 5:32 a.m., the dead man was crossing Road 26, south of the intersection with Ellis Street. Garcia, who was driving a 2006 GMC, was greenlighted to pass through the intersection, when he struck the man.
The man pulled over, dialled 911, and was returning to the scene of the accident when a ’99 Toyota Camry driven by Jamie Rodriguez struck the man where he lay on the roadside. The deceased was on the No. 1 southbound lane of Road 26.
By the time the police arrived at the scene of the accident, the cyclist was dead, and they pronounced him. The man’s body was taken to the Madera County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy.
Both men stayed behind to talk to the police, and they were not charged with any offense. Drugs or alcohol have been ruled out as contributing factors, and the crash remains under investigation.
