The man whose life ended when his car collided with a big Mack in Corning, Tehama County, California, has been identified by the authorities. On Thursday, March 26th, they released his name as Marino Ruiz Dias, 45.
Dias died in a two-vehicle collision that occurred late on Sunday, March 22nd, at about 10:30 p.m. The California Highway Patrol said the accident took place on South Avenue, west of Mary Avenue.
The deceased was driving a 2011 Nissan Altima at the time of the accident. He was heading east on South Avenue when he collided with a 2015 Mack carrying a tanker-trailer full of diesel.
The driver of the trailer, Richard L. Murphy, 65, of Chico, told the CHP that Dias swerved unexpectedly into his lane. Murphy could do nothing to avoid the fast-going Nissan, hence the collision.
Dias was unresponsive by the time paramedics arrived at the scene and was pronounced dead. The truck driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated by the medics at the scene.
There is currently no additional information on the crash, and the police are still investigating.
Over speeding is one of the common causes of accidents, with drivers going about 10, 20, or 30 times over the speed limit. Another reason is the recklessness of drivers, which leads to people taking turns and overtaking at top speed.
Night driving also contributes to accidents, with about 48% of all fatal crashes occurring at night time. One of the ways to avoid accidents is driving within the speed limit, exercising the utmost care, and driving on bright roadways.
