Manuel Fernandez Killed in Vehicle-versus-Pedestrian Accident in Victorville

A vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash in Victorville, 30 miles from San Bernardino, California, left a man dead on Monday, March 9th. The authorities identified him as 89-year-old Manuel Fernandez.

The deceased passed away after a vehicle driven by a person identified as a 70-year-old Victorville female struck him down at about 4:30 p.m. According to the Victorville Police Department, Fernandez was crossing Luna Road at Princeton Drive when a Chrysler minivan heading east hit him.

The woman told the police she did not see the man on the road. Fernandez sustained severe injuries, and paramedics who came with the first responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

The police did not cite the driver of the minivan, and they’ve established that she was not impaired in any way. Witnesses with helpful information have been asked to contact the police via its listed landline.

Pedestrian accidents claim thousands of lives yearly in the United States. The high fatality rate is due to the severity of the injuries sustained when a vehicle knocks down a person.

Most pedestrians are hit when they are crossing or are about to cross the road. A car going at 25 miles per hour has the potential to cause extensive damage to a person’s anatomy, and the severity depends on some factors.

The first factor is whether the pedestrian was standing relative to the front of the car, followed by the speed of the car at the time of the accident. The next is the type and shape of the car, the bumper, hood, and windshield, as well as the age and height of the pedestrian.
