The California Highway Patrol said that a two-vehicle collision southwest of Shafter, California killed a female motorist on Monday morning, September 21st. They identified the fatal victim as 30-year-old Maribel Pimental Lopez.
The agency’s car accident report placed the victim behind the wheel of a gray Nissan Altima struck by a white Chevrolet SUV. The CHP stated that at about 7:03 a.m., officers responded to the crash site at the intersection of Burbank Street and Scaroni Avenue.
The preliminary investigation uncovered that Lopez’s Nissan was westbound on Burbank and made a complete stop at the intersection with Scaroni. The motorist then pulled out of the intersection into the Chevrolet path on the northbound lane of Scaroni.
The CHP said the victim did not notice the Chevrolet was at a close distance before entering the intersection. The SUV struck Lopez’s car on the driver’s side, and the force of the impact sent both vehicles into the fence of a nearby business.
The victim was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained significant injuries. First responders pronounced her dead at the scene. No other person suffered injuries from the occurrence, and it did not affect any lanes at the intersection.
Carelessly driving through intersections is one of the common causes of traffic accidents. The California Vehicle Code provides that drivers obey the traffic signals or lights at an intersection, yield the way to an oncoming vehicle, and ensure that the light is green before driving through.
