The bicycle rider killed while riding with his daughter in Tracy, California, has been identified as Mark Madamba, a 45-year-old city resident. The San Joaquin County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identification in the accident report update of Monday, September 21st.
The victim, who retired as a deputy from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department, was struck by an SUV on Saturday night, September 19th. The accident happened on South MacArthur Drive near Eastlake Drive.
The Tracy Police Department dispatch log revealed that they dispatched officers to the scene around 7:13 p.m. after receiving reports of a red Dodge Journey striking a cyclist. Sgt. Craig Kootstra said that Madamba and his daughter were crossing MacArthur at the intersection with Eastlake.
The two were in the crosswalk when the SUV struck the man. Witnesses told the police that the collision’s impact threw the victim about 50 feet, and he landed behind some bushes. Bystanders performed CPR on the man, and the medics rushed him to San Joaquin General Hospital, where he died.
Madamba’s daughter was not hurt and stayed with the police for about an hour while officers tried to locate her mother. The TPD said that the SUV continued through the road before crashing into a wall and a sign at the Hidden Lake subdivision entrance.
Officers towed the vehicle, while the male driver went to the station to provide his statement. There is no citation or arrest at the time of this report, but that might change after the investigation. The police used barricades to close the affected roadway; they reopened it after midnight.
