On Wednesday, September 30th, the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the fatal victim of a pedestrian accident in San Jose, California. The coroner revealed the victim’s name as Matthew Norried, a 37-year-old Fresno resident.
The crash occurred on Sunday, September 27th, around 12:15 a.m. on McKee Road near North Capitol Avenue. In the accident report, the San Jose Police said Norried was walking outside a crosswalk when a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado struck him.
The police said that the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, and cooperated with the investigation. There is no additional information at this time.
When it comes to the safety of pedestrians, the California Office of Traffic Safety admonishes that they think two steps ahead. The agency believes that the problem of pedestrians getting killed on the state’s roadways is terrible and getting worse.
More people are walking to get to school, work, shopping centers, or just for fun and exercise. OTS states that while California promotes walking as a healthy, positive, and community building alternative to driving, it is dangerous due to the disregard of safety measures.
Safety is a two-way street, and as drivers and pedestrians share in the cause of auto-pedestrian collisions, they must work together to prevent it. They can achieve this by demonstrating safe road behaviors that would ultimately protect them and others on the road. Failure to do this lead to fatal consequences, and at other times, legal repercussions.
