On Saturday, February 22nd, the authorities revealed the names of the two women involved in the car collision on the morning of Friday, February 21st. They are Melissa Brasington, 45, and Carolyn Leak, 79.
The accident happened on 15 Freeway, near Railroad Canyon Road, Lake Elsinore, California, at about 11 a.m. Brasington, who was driving a 2017 Subaru Mountaineer collided, with Leak, who was behind the wheel of a ’99 Mercedes-Benz car.
When the Subaru collided with the Benz, it went up an embankment where it crashed into a traffic sign pole. Leak’s car, on the other hand, overturned in the middle of the Freeway, ejecting the older woman who wasn’t wearing a seat belt out of the vehicle through the sunroof.
The Benz driver sustained severe life-threatening injuries and was taken by paramedics to the Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar. Brasington was also taken to the same hospital, with severe injuries.
The two women are in stable condition and receiving treatment. The California Highway Patrol has not stated if driver’s impairment played a role in the collision, or if they plan to cite Brasington for the accident.
When an accident occurs, either it is a product of a driver’s negligence or that of the two or more drivers involved. Thus, drivers on California freeways are advised to avoid driving when impaired in any way or drowsy.
Drivers should avoid using freeways when there are adverse weather conditions and enter the roadway at a safe speed. Also, motorists should not drive along a car’s bloodspot, and always leave room in between vehicles.
