A man was killed on Sunday morning after his vehicle was struck by a fuel tanker truck along Ramona Expressway in San Jacinto, California. Accident reports revealed that the incident took place on Sunday, April 5.
The California Highway Patrol disclosed that the accident was reported at about 5:40 am. Officers dispatched to the scene gathered that the fatal victim was traveling through the eastbound No. 3 lane of the expressway, in a white Acura sedan.
For reasons yet to be determined, the sedan, which had three occupants, came to an abrupt halt in the middle of the road, near Sanderson Avenue.
Just then, a fuel tanker truck, which was plying the same route collided with the parked vehicle from behind, causing it to skid into the dirt shoulder of the road.
The operator of the Acura suffered fatal injuries as a result and was pronounced dead on the scene by emergency responders.
Police have since identified the deceased driver as Michael Arellanes, a 30-year-old resident of Ontario.
Meanwhile, the two passengers traveling alongside Arellanes suffered minor to moderate injuries described as non-life-threatening. The two injured victims, whose names were not immediately disclosed, were administered first aid on the scene before they were taken to a nearby hospital.
No information was released concerning the fuel truck or its operator in the accident reports.
The incident remains under investigation by the CHP to determine the cause of the traffic collision.
