The California Highway Patrol on Thursday, April 6th, released an accident report detailing the facts of a solo car crash south of Lake Tahoe, California. The occurrence involved Michael Glen Pace, 74, of Dayton, Nevada.
The CHP said that the accident happened on Wednesday, August 5th, on Blue Lakes Road off State Route 88. The man traveled in a Toyota vehicle southbound on the roadway, north of Sunset Lake Road. He failed to negotiate a left curve on the road, causing him to go onto the gravel shoulder.
Pace tried to steer his car back on the roadway, but it overturned, tumbled 150 feet down a steep embankment and struck a tree. The man suffered a fatal wound which he succumbed to at the crash site.
The CHP said that there were no witnesses to the occurrence, and the crash went unreported until about 1:30 p.m. The highway patrol wants anyone who witnessed the accident or saw Pace while he was driving to contact their South Lake Tahoe office on the listed line.
Accidents occur when people least expect them, and they are caused either by human-made errors or external influences beyond their control. Common causes of collisions are speeding, running red lights or stop signs, driving under the influence, an underlying medical condition or mechanical defect.
Wrong-way driving, tailgating, adverse weather or road conditions, and animal sighting also causes collisions. Drivers can mitigate the preceding by promoting safe road habits when on the way.
