A traffic collision claimed the life of a pedestrian early Sunday morning, July 26th. The Orange County Coroner’s Office said Marty Mannani, a 64-year-old resident of San Juan Capistrano, died from injuries sustained in the incident that occurred on Marguerite Parkway, Mission Viejo, California.
The accident report showed that the collision happened around 7:35 a.m. near Alerzal. The Orange County Police Department said that an SUV struck Mannani as he attempted to cross Marguerite. When paramedics arrived at the scene, they found the victim lying on the roadway unresponsive and pronounced him dead.
Deputies said that the male driver of the SUV stopped after striking Mannani and cooperated with the investigation. The inquiry into the crash is ongoing, and there’s no additional information.
When an accident occurs, no matter the type, those involved out of fright have a fight or flee response. Under California law, a person involved in an accident must stop at the scene, or look for the nearest possible place where traffic won’t get impeded, and call the relevant authorities.
Check for injuries, and render first aid to the victim. If there’s no injury or death, but there’s damage to a parked car or private property, locate the owner and exchange contact and insurance information. If the owner is not available, find a conspicuous place, and leave the relevant information. Failure to do any of the preceding would amount to a hit-and-run and adverse legal consequences.
