The California Highway Patrol reported that the fatal crash occurred in the southbound lanes of Interstate Highway 880 near Tennyson Road. The San Leandro native rear-ended a pickup truck, and the impact threw him off his motorcycle.
Custodio landed on the roadway and sustained severe traumatic injuries to his upper and lower body. By the time paramedics arrived at the scene, he was long dead, and they pronounced him.
The deceased’s body was then taken to the Alameda County Coroner’s Office, where an autopsy will be performed. There will also be a toxicology report to determine whether or not Custodio was impaired at the time of the crash.
The CHP is still investigating the crash and has not released additional information at the time of this report. The identity of the driver the motorcyclist struck has also not been revealed.
Most motorcycle accidents end in the death of the cyclist as the two-wheeled drive provides little or no protection for riders. The exposed nature of the bike leaves motorcyclists to the mercy of the road leading to severe traumatic injuries.
Riders suffer trauma to the upper and lower bodies that result in broken bones, fractures, concussions, internal bleeding, and ruptured organs. The best safety measures for motorcyclists include having a helmet fastened on the head and wearing protective covering while riding.
