An operator of the San Francisco Municipal Railway (MUNI) train ran into a crash over the weekend. He died at a hospital following the crash. The incident occurred on Noe Street on Saturday, August 29. The victim was identified by the authorities as Antonio Cahilig.
According to the details shared by the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, Cahilig was an operator on the 24 Divisadero route of the MUNI. Early on the morning of Saturday, Cahilig was operating the MUNI along the route when he suddenly fell ill. The agency didn’t specify what kind of illness was this and whether or not it was a medical emergency.
Following the illness, Cahilig apparently lost control of the vehicle which then collided into a number of cars parked on the Noe Street. There were no other passengers on board the MUNI vehicle at the time. No other persons were present near the parked cars which prevented injuries to anyone else. The incident was reported at around 5 a.m.
Once help arrived on the scene of the crash, Cahilig was transported to the San Francisco Zuckerberg General Hospital. Attempts to revive him at the hospital failed and he died.
The agency issued a statement extending condolences to the family of Antonio Cahilig. The director of the agency also celebrated Cahilig as a dedicated employee of the agency. No details are available on the nature of the illness which caused Cahilig to lose control of the vehicle. It is also unclear whether he died from the illness itself or from any injuries caused in the crash.
