In a tragic accident that has left a community mourning, 57-year-0ld Catherine Campion-Ritz was killed in a hit-and-run bicycle accident on Newport Coast Drive and Ocean Ridge near her home of Irvine last month. The driver of the car that struck Campion-Ritz fled the scene, however, police were able to track him down later and arrest him. Michael Jason Lopez, 39, is believed to be the driver of the car that struck and killed Campion-Ritz.
Campion-Ritz was a well-known and prominent physician in Orange County and will be missed by all. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.

Dr. Campion was the President of the Greater Newport Physicians, a group of physicians in Southern California. The organization released the following statement:
