Noel Ledesma Sentenced to 5 Years In Prison for Salinas DUI Accident

A Watsonville man on Thursday, June 18th, received a five years and eight months prison sentence for his role in a DUI accident that occured in Salinas, California, last June. Noel Ledesma, 39, was driving under the influence of meth and marijuana at the time of the crash.

The accident report disclosed that the man collided with a female driver, leaving her with severe injuries. The California Highway Patrol responded to a call about the accident and arrived to find Ledesma and the victim at the scene.

Officers spoke to the woman, and she told them that she was heading west on Blanco Road at about 50 miles per hour when she saw the male driver’s vehicle on the right shoulder of the road. As the victim got closer to Ledesma’s car, he made a sudden U-turn directly in front of her and struck the left side of her vehicle.

The woman sustained extensive injuries to her hip and had to get surgery, pins, and screws to fix it. She also had bilateral rib fractures, a fractured right hand, tendon tears, and bruises. Officers while speaking to Ledesma discovered that he was intoxicated and a field sobriety test, and later, a blood test confirmed it.

The victim said during the sentencing that although the accident impacted her life in several ways, she is happy to be alive. Ledesma has a prior strike from a 2013 assault with a deadly weapon conviction in Montreal County, and he would have to serve 85% of his sentence before getting considered for parole.
