Olin Huckabee Dies In Fresno Wreck Caused By Shane Stone During Police Pursuit

Authorities have identified the two men killed Thursday afternoon when a high-speed chase through Fresno streets ended in a violent collision.

Shane Stone, 42, and Olin Huckabee, 55, both of Fresno, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, according to the Fresno Police Department. The two drivers were the only two people involved in the wreck, and no other injuries were included in car accident reports.

Police said they attempted to pull over a vehicle at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday near the Tower District for having expired registration tags. The driver, later identified as Stone, a known gang member who was serving federal probation, then sped off, according to car accident reports.

Stone fled at speeds in excess of 100 mph, Fresno police reported. He eventually ran a red light at North Palm and East Clinton avenues, striking a second vehicle, operated by Huckabee, that was attempting to turn from Clinton on southbound Palm, car accident reports state.

Both Stone and Huckabee were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by emergency medical personnel.

“The Fresno Police Department Collision Reconstruction Unit responding to investigate the collision and located a loaded, fully automatic assault rifle in the trunk of the suspect vehicle,” police wrote in a press release, adding, “Stone is a known gang member and has an extensive criminal history with several evading and weapons charges. He was on federal probation at the time of the collision.”
