The man who died in a multiple-vehicle collision in the unincorporated Sun Village near Palmdale, California, has been identified. Updated accident reports released on Sunday, July 5th, named Justin Leath as the fatal victim.
According to the California Highway Patrol and Capt. Dave Parigan of the Los Angeles County Fire Department’s Station 93 in Palmdale, Leath, was one of the two people who died from the collision. The other victim is a female driver identified as Tori Ann Haywood, 43.
Parigan said in a press briefing that the male driver was behind the wheel of a silver 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe that crashed into a black Toyota sedan driven by the female motorist. The collision happened at the intersection of East Palmdale Boulevard and 90th Street East.
The occurrence also involved a 2021 Hyundai driven by 21-year-old Tia Perkins McMinnville. The fire captain said that one of the cars involved rolled over its roof and caught fire upon impact. The LAFD helped put out the fire, and their medics pronounced Leath and Haywood dead at the scene.
Five others who were passengers in the wrecked cars sustained injuries, and the medics took them to an undisclosed hospital for treatment. The cause of the accident remains unknown, and the investigation continues.
Motor vehicle accidents are one of the leading causes of death in California and the United States. Crashes happen daily and for several reasons, but drivers can prevent them by practicing safe road behaviors.
