Pascual Iboa Reyes Killed in Traffic Crash in San Martin

Reports of a car accident that killed an elderly man this week in San Martin, California, have been released by the California Highway Patrol. Santa Clara County officials recorded the occurrence early on Wednesday morning, June 3.

The CHP reported that a motorist identified as 66-year-old Pascual Iboa Reyes, a resident of San Jose, met his end at about 5:30 a.m. A vehicle reportedly struck him while walking across the southbound Highway 101, a few miles south of San Martin Avenue.

Investigations carried out on the scene revealed that the victim was initially driving a vehicle along the highway. The motorist encountered a disabled car on the right shoulder of the road and pulled over in the center divider to possibly assist the stranded motorist.

However, just as he alighted from his car, and was walking across the roadway towards the other vehicle, a southbound Toyota Corolla, also traveling on 101, struck him. The reports did not disclose the speed of the car that ran him over. Police said the operator of the vehicle, which struck the victim, lost control of his car seconds before the collision, leading to the crash.

Reyes suffered fatal injuries in the collision, and first responders pronounced him dead at the scene. CHP officials did not record any other casualty in the encounter. Detectives believe impairment was not a factor in the accident.

The incident remains under investigation, and San Martin authorities urged witnesses to contact the CHP area office with reports about the car accident.
