Pregnant Woman Killed in Anaheim Accident Named as Yesenia Aguilar

The 35-week pregnant woman killed in an auto-pedestrian accident in Anaheim, California, has been identified as Yesenia Lisette Aguilar, 23. The Anaheim Police Department made the identification public on Wednesday, August 12th.

The accident report made a day earlier, on Tuesday, August 11th, disclosed that a suspected DUI driver struck the woman around 7:30 p.m. in the 1500-block of Katella Avenue. The police said that the victim was walking on the sidewalk with her husband when a white Jeep SUV driven by Courtney Pandolfi of Garden Grove hit her.

The motorist lost control of her car and drifted into the sidewalk. Emergency responders rushed Aguilar to UCI Medical Center, but she passed away while receiving treatment. The medical personnel was able to save the baby, and the infant is in the neonatal intensive care unit with critical injuries.

The victim’s husband, who remains unnamed, was uninjured. Pandolfi sustained minor injuries and received treatment at an area hospital. The police arrested her on suspicion of DUI, vehicular manslaughter, and driving on a suspended license. The investigation is ongoing.

Ordinarily, sidewalks and crosswalks are meant to keep pedestrians from moving traffic and prevent an accident. However, pedestrians sometimes choose to walk or cross outside the two, and drivers fail to yield the way to them, thereby causing a collision.

The two must work together to prevent accidents by promoting safe road practices. Obeying traffic rules also goes a long way in curbing auto-pedestrian crashes and keeping pedestrians safe.
