Police have arrested a female motorist suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and causing a two-vehicle crash in Bakersfield, California. The fatal crash took place early on Wednesday morning, May 13, and would require the legal intervention of a drunk driving attorney.
The Kern County authorities confirmed in a statement that one of two victims involved in a crash on Highway 155, at precisely 5:30 a.m. lost her life. The other victim ended up in police custody after receiving treatment in a hospital.
Initial reports revealed that officers deployed to the scene of the wreck discovered two disabled vehicles on the south shoulder of the highway, at Zerker Road. Investigators gathered that a Honda Civic and a Chevrolet Cruze, each having a single occupant, were traveling along opposite traffic lanes on U.S. 155.
While in transit, the westbound Honda, driven by Reane Demery, veered into the east lanes of travel, and onto the path of the eastbound Chevrolet, resulting in a head-on collision. The impact dislodged the Honda’s engine from the vehicle, causing it to sway into a nearby almond orchard, according to the CHP reports.
The two victims were in critical condition when the rescue team arrived. They transported both motorists to Kern Medical Center for treatment of major injuries. The 44-year-old Delano woman operating the Chevrolet succumbed to her wounds at the hospital.
Meanwhile, officers determined that Demery was driving while intoxicated. She faces charges of felony DUI.
Anyone involved in a DUI-related crash can contact a drunk driving attorney for representation.
