A 28-year-old man from Cotati, Stephen Marteo, is facing felony charges for hitting an 11-year-old boy in Rohnert Park, California, on Sunday night, June 7th. The Rohnert Park Police Department took the suspect into custody shortly after he fled from the scene of the collision.
The crash report showed that the boy was driving a bike when Marteo struck him at about 7 p.m. in 900 Civic Center Drive. Responding paramedics took the minor to an undisclosed hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Witnesses told RPPD Officers that the suspect drove away after hitting the victim on Country Club Drive. While the lawmen investigated, a Cotati Police Department officer remembered seeing a truck matching the description of Marteo’s vehicle.
The officer then went to the address associated with the truck in the 500-block of Sierra Avenue. The vehicle pulled into the drive at about the same time, and the lawman detained the suspect. A witness positively identified Marteo as the man involved in the collision, and the investigators placed him in Sonoma County Jail.
Jail records show that the man is still in custody, with his bail set at $110 000. He is facing two felonies for drunk driving and hit-and-run, two misdemeanors, and probation violation. Marteo is due in court on Tuesday, June 9th. There is no additional information.
Those involved in DUI-related accidents and hit-and-run should seek legal advice, and if needed, representation from a competent car accident lawyer.
