One of the accident report updates on Thursday, June 4th, disclosed the identities of the men who died in an auto collision near Gilroy, California. The Santa Clara Medical Examiner’s Office revealed their names as Rolando Barrientos, 53, and Pedro Griego Jr., 37, both of Hollister.
The initial crash report showed that the men lost their lives at the scene of a head-on collision on Tuesday morning, June 2nd. According to the California Highway Patrol, the report about the accident came in at about 8:05 a.m. from Frazier Lake Road south of Bloomfield Avenue.
Barrientos was driving a 2015 Nissan Altima south on the roadway when for unknown reasons, the car drifted off the right shoulder and struck a metal guardrail. He went on to enter the northbound lane, putting him directly in front of a 2005 Nissan Frontier driven by Griego.
The vehicles collided head-on, and the impact left the victims with fatal injuries. The CHP investigators said that alcohol might have factored in the accident, but they haven’t confirmed it. There is currently no additional information.
Facts gathered from several accident reports show that driving under the influence is one of the leading causes of traffic accidents. Drugs and/or alcohol affect a person’s cognitive abilities, making it hard to focus when behind the wheel.
California recommends that drivers have less than .08% blood alcohol concentration when driving. Anything from that mark and above is a traffic offense, and offenders are liable to have their driving privileges suspended.
