A hit-and-run driver in San Diego, California, ended the life of a pedestrian on Thursday morning, March 5th. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the pedestrian as 21-year-old Brescia Ayon.
The pedestrian died from injuries sustained when a can crashed into her along Otay Mesa Road. Ayon was heading south on foot across the road near the southwest corner of Brown Field Municipal Airport.
According to the San Diego police, at the same, a car was traveling west, and it struck the deceased down on the crosswalk for reasons they have not uncovered. It happened precisely near Otay Mesa and Cactus roads.
When emergency services arrived at the scene, they found Ayon lying on the road, with extensive injuries. When the paramedics examined the woman, they found her unresponsive and pronounced her dead.
The police reported the accident at about 9:15 a.m. and stated that the driver involved continued driving west instead of stopping. The suspect’s car was described as a silver Nissan Altima sedan with damage to its front-end.
The investigation into the accident is still ongoing, and the police have asked anyone with helpful and credible information to contact the San Diego office.
The California Vehicle Code provides that a person involved in an accident should stop when someone is seriously injured, dead, or a vehicle or any property gets damaged. Hit-and-run crashes are treated as a misdemeanor or felony when charged to court.
A conviction for misdemeanor carries a year in jail, and a fine up to $10 000, and a felony carries four years in state prison and $10 000.
