Following Thursday’s crash of a 1969 Piper PA-24 260 Comanche near Santa Rosa that killed two people, investigators have been able to identify the victims.
Marsha Gail Gastwirth, 68, and Donald Gordon MacKenzie, 69 both of Santa Rosa, were killed when the plane went down near Charles M.Schulz – Sonoma County Airport. MacKenzie was formerly a board member for the Pacific Coast Air Museum as well as a volunteer,
The plane was en route from Palm Springs, approaching Sonoma when around 7 pm, it crashed less than a mile away from the runway. The pilot had been in communication with the tower at Sonoma County, as well as Air Traffic Control at Oakland. It was unknown if a distress call had been given.
At the time of the crash, the plane had not deviated from its course and was flying on instruments on a normal path.
