The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified the man killed in a traffic collision in Bakersfield, California. The coroner named 32-year-old Sean Michael Saling as the fatal victim in updates made to the accident report on Wednesday, September 2nd.
The victim operated a big rig truck that collided with a tractor-trailer around 6:11 a.m. on Herring Road and Old River Road on Saturday, August 29th. According to the California Highway Patrol, the impact of the collision pinned Saling inside his vehicle, and it caught fire afterward.
Medics pronounced the victim dead at the scene. The CHP did not release additional information on what led to the accident, but the investigation remains active.
Motor vehicle collisions occur for many reasons that are either within or outside the control of a motorist. Common causes of accidents cover driving outside the recommended speed limit, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, running red lights or stop signs at intersections, and driving while distracted.
Others are tailgating, animal sighting, especially in rural areas, adverse weather conditions like rain, snow, or fog, wrong-way driving, and illegal lane splitting. Mechanical or manufacturer defects, adverse road conditions, and an underlying medical condition also cause traffic accidents.
Drivers can mitigate the above by promoting safe road behaviors for their safety and that of others. Obeying traffic rules and regulations and following safety tips go a long way to mitigate crashes. It also prevents adverse legal consequences that might arise when severe bodily harm or death occurs.
